In response to the owners’ wish to maximize and optimize the available spaces, a new volume is added at the back of their existing house. The expansion, facing the large garden, hosts a large living room on the ground floor and the Master bedroom with view on the second floor. The functions in the existing house are redefined and reshuffled. The existing, yet renewed, staircase volume remains as the connecting-distribution element between “old” and “new”, while one opening in the existing back facade makes the connection (visually and physically) possible to the newly added areas behind, this being reinforced by the double hight voids in between the old house and the new part.
